CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

2011 Ballet Exams went really well! Congratulations to all the applicants, everyone passed! All results were higher than Commended which is great!

Ballet:

Based on French and Russian ballet training methods (Living Dance Curriculum), this is an enjoyable and stimulating class, where highly trained teachers impart the foundations of ballet technique for good posture, strength, flexibility and grace. This class also contains plenty of opportunity to develop imagination and creative expression. An excellent way for children to develop confidence, fitness, creativity and self-expression in a safe and encouraging environment. Exams are optional, read our Ballet Exam Guide here.

We also have ballet classes for adults; open-class style suitable for beginners. No dress code.

Boys Hip-hop:

Recognising that boys will be boys, and boys do NOT dance like girls! This class gives boys a great outlet for their exuberance and energy, encouraging their developing masculinity and giving them permission to express themselves. Boys will learn hip-hop dance, with lots of time for running, jumping, and generally having fun!   Starts Jan 2012
 

Contemporary Dance:

Great for the person or child who wants to explore movement but is not drawn to the ballet mould. These classes teach freedom of expression, co-ordination, strength, flexibility and are a good grounding for any other kind of dance you may take up later.  Starts Jan 2012

Dance Mix:

Adults class. Try a different dance style every month. No special shoes needed. Suitable for beginners.

Term 1: Contemporary, Hip hop. Term 2: Tap, Jazz. Term 3: Ballet, Musical Theatre. Term 4: Lyrical, Class favourite.

Drama:

Great for building confidence, providing an outlet for creativity, invention, and social interaction, drama teaches kids essential life-skills. Jon teaches in an environment of encouragement and acceptance, drawing out the creativity of each child. Drama is also a great adjunct to dance training and is vital in developing the stage presence of the young dancer.
 

Hip-Hop:

That edgy, funky style seen in popular media. We teach Hip-Hop in a wholesome way that does not introduce kids to inappropriate music or movement. Hip-hop has its roots in African tribal culture and is great for the kid who loves to jump around! Anyone can learn and excel in hip-hop and it is a wonderful source of joy in life.
 

 

 

Jazz Dance:

Foundational stage dance technique. High energy, theatrical, kids love dancing to famous show tunes and pop songs. Jazz is an accessible type of dance that anyone can enjoy. Our Jazz classes ensure that your child only learns steps and wears costumes that are appropriate to their age.

Pre-School Ballet

Provides the foundations of the ballet class material above, in an environment which includes familiar pre-school songs, games, and imaginary play. It's a lot of fun! And there is no uniform set for this class, they can wear their own tutu or costume.
 

Stretch & Meditate class

Includes various methods of mind-body movement meditation, quite physically demanding and similar to yoga in the improvement in flexibility and strength, while balancing the spirit and emotions.   

Tap:

Tap is a great fun way of making noise with permission! Teaches kids fabulous rhythm and co-ordination skills, is a great way of using up all that excess energy, and lets them have lots of fun learning impressive footwork.   Starts Jan 2012
 

Toddler Music and Movement:

Gets toddlers moving and active with lots of props, songs, games, action songs, imaginary play, hoops, balls, dressups and more. Kids have a great time, and learn the important skills of group participation, structured class format, and following instructions. Keeps them fit and healthy and excited about participation in the arts.
